The Abduction of Guzma and Ramsay WIP: Ramsay's Key Pose Sketch
And now, presenting my No. 2 Favorite Husbando: RAMSAY
sQuee!!! ̋(๑°ꇴ°๑).。.:✿♡
Ahh... enough fangirling. (*´∀`*)
It's my first time drawing this Bad Boy and I was really excited (and nervous).
I noticed the significant lack of fanart for this guy. He's not as popular as Guzma, despite having a few number of fans somewhere in Tumblr and Twitter but that's it. I understand because before his character and lore had the chance to get fleshed out, the game Gigantic had a premature shut down. (╯°Д°)╯ ┻━┻ So once the game is dead, so is the fan base. It isn't fair because he has so MUCH potential! ๐·°(৹˃﹏˂৹)°·๐ So it's all up to me to bring this character back from the grave.
Now I shall unveil my first two sketches of Ramsay. Similar to Guzma's case, the two sketches will serve as the 2 Main Key Drawings or Key Poses that will influence how the character's movement and reaction will change per scene.
This is how the 1st Key Pose will look like.
Here's the 1st Key Pose Sketch without the scribbly texts, for a better view. God, just look how vulnerable he is. (*≧∀≦*)
As much as I love Ramsay so much, I gotta admit. He was so damn CHALLENGING to draw! (°ㅂ°╬)
Comparing to Guzma, it was a pain to do Ramsay, though I get that it's normal to experience that at first, since I just began drawing this character. However, Guzma has more clear references; he's got an official profile art, concept art and lots of game screenshots (Pokemon SM, USUM and Masters) and anime screenshots. So it's a lot easier to gather enough references to study and get used to his style. I even had the liberty to add a bit of my style which worked on him so well, after all, he's an anime character and my style leans heavily to anime.
But Ramsay... *sniffles* Why you so hard to draw? (ಠ⌣ಠ)
Well since Ramsay was introduced a year (2017) before the game shut down (2018), his official artworks are quite limited. His references are NOT consistent that I kept debating to myself how to draw his medallion or where to align his tattoos. I can't determine whether his tattoos are located on his neck or shoulders or if it exceeds past the shoulders and reaches his pecs. Sadly, there is NO concept art of TOPLESS Ramsay nor a full drawn detail of his tatoos. So it depends on my personal visual judgment.
Official Profile Art:
Official Concept Art: (Original Skins)
His official profile art and concept art both have different styles. The former has a more angular style, not just the tips of his body parts. Ramsay's medallion and the pieces fastening the strap are kinda squarish. The latter has a natural feel to it but had additional details not present in the profile art and in the games. The medallion and the pieces holding the strap are rounder, furthermore it has an extra piece underneath. The swords on his neck/shoulder tattoos are drawn a bit differently, plus it has an extra detail at the lower tip.
In-game Screenshot: (from Gigantic: Hero Overview - Ramsay video)
To resolve this dilemma, I took screenshots from the game trailers. However, I noticed that the in-game design is also different! But then I realized that his in-game tattoos are similar to his official profile art, so I decided to use it as my reference. In short, I made up my mind to make my own version of him, that is to mix up all three references.
Problem solved? Almost. I think I rambled too much about how difficult he was to draw but let's proceed to the next drawing.
And now for the 2nd Key Pose.
He's gonna look like this in the second scene, same as with Guzma. "There's no chance of escape my naughty bitches, your asses are mine!" Haha, and these two egotistic hooligans completely succumbed their pussies to their captor. (⊙▽⊙)
Ehem. Back to how I drew Ramsay. Whenever I look at Ramsay's delicious- I mean impressive design, there was one thing that always bothered me: he has cartoonishly narrow hips! I know Ramsay isn't an anime character and his build is more of an exaggerated athletic and muscular mesomorph that is common among heroes in western animation (e.g. Samurai Jack and Justice League men). However, he has very broad shoulders (emphasizing how thick he already is) which doesn't go well with his teeny-tiny hips. So I took the liberty of widening the hips to balance out his body proportions, and gave him a juicy ASS he deserves.
Despite the trouble I faced in drawing him, the part where I enjoyed the most doing are his expressions. I can't help but love his ratlike facial features! (♥ꇳ♥) It's his most distinguishing aspect in his overall design. Ramsay would never be Ramsay if he has a bishounen or pretty boy face; he's a ruffian, a thug, a bad boy! No offense to pretty boy delinquents that are common right now in anime (and no I'm not talking about Tokyo Revengers), but I want my man to look bad, wild and sexy (like Guzma, yeah). And what's even sexier than to have bad boys with big egos reduced to vulnerable, horny sluts? (º﹃º) Yeah, these are my KINKs.
Alright, I served my man justice. Now my main problem is, who the rival gang will be. Since the official Gigantic website is gone and there are no extra information about existing gangs or rivals that Ramsay encountered in-game, I might end up using existing villains in the Pokemon universe. Hmm... who would it be? Giovanni and Team Rocket kinda make sense to me but I do like Team Yell because of their punk scene (because I ADORE PUNKS). However, Team Yell is kinda more of an aggressive Marnie fandom and their leader Piers is well, lacks a bit of character. It was disappointing. Or maybe, Lusamine and Aether Foundation? But they aren't a gang! Ugh! I just don't know yet.
